i think once people learn linux, using windows won't be a problem...like going from manual to automatic transmission. it's the people who are chained to microsoft who are afraid of learning the linux tools. and it's not like in college you are FORCED to use a windows machine. maybe you could even convince the colleges to make the switch too.

have there been any repercussions thus far--like extreme innovation?

GNU/Linux has evolved after great efforts of entire global community, purely for development of freedom, prosperity and growth. Hence this has to be supported and spread quickly to all our masses. It is not only an OS against a propritory OS, but a platform for real FREEDOM. Nothing wrong by replacing MS or MAC OSs by GNU/Linux. Our people can switch over fast to this, even faster than the GNU/Linux developers, which I hope will result in the fulfilment of the vision of GNU/Linux creators.

Its mid July 2008. My father who owns a cyber cafe in a small village (Meladoor) in Kerala is planning to run xubuntu on his couple of machines. I am trying to get paid support for Linux machines either from Thrissur or Ernakulam. I hope it works out. I am happy to see that the IT @ School project is taking off. Once there are more children who learn Linux there would be more interest in migrating to Linux.

good post,i too think its a great move, most of the electronics companies( me myself is an electronics engineer) now use linux because of strength of the kernal.More than that Kerala should definitely support linux to uphold its stong communist values .
